Mid-Year Update on 2017 Sewing Goals

At the end of 2016, I set a few 2017 sewing goals for myself as part of Gillian's Top 5 sewing round-up. Halfway through the year, here's an update on my progress! I've made a dent in some of my goals, but others I haven't even touched yet. At the same time, some of my plans have changed due to my move. The swimsuit, for instance, is less of a priority since I've just moved away from S.E. Asia, whereas the coat project seems more dire! Sewing sweaters and flannel things has also become a priority. Returning to knitting and crochet should be on the list, too. 1. Bras and undies!Negligible progress on this goal. I made a couple of pairs of cotton/spandex undies from scraps of other project, but really haven't really settled on a favorite pattern yet. And I haven't tried bras yet, either. I pulled out the Watson bra kit I have and almost cut into but panicked and put it away again. For some reason I find the bra-making materials intimidating. No idea why..

Pattern launch: the Nore dress for teens and women

Oh what a special day! Let’s celebrate the release of my 20th paper pattern! It’s unbelievable but true. Today I’m launching the Nore dress for teens & women. It starts for teens from 12yo till size 50. As you might have noticed already this pattern includes even more options than the Nore pattern for kids. Let’s have a look at the cocoon dress options again. This is what I call view A. It includes two front panels. With of without inserts (and integrated pockets) and three back options: plain, with inserts again or split in two. In the women version of the Nore dress I included 3 ways to finish the sleeves: wide cuffs, a small sleeve band or long sleeves. And because some of you requested this extra deatil I included the opportunity to choose for a deeper and wider neckline. The first view (A) can be turned into a sweater and nightgown too. If you sew the basic dress or top you can choose knit or woven fabrics. With the inserts you can even combine both. Besides the cocoon dress ..

#LOTD: Lingerie Of The Day

#OOTD… how about #LOTD. Swapping every fashion bloggers favorite hashtag (#ootd meaning outfit of the day for all you non fashion folks) for a more fitting one. #LOTD is my term for lingerie of the day. Yeh, I made that up. Now that the weather has taken a turn towards hot, hot, hot, my lingerie is making more of an appearance. No longer hidden underneath bulky sweaters (yay!), it’s peeking out of tees and being exposed via sheer and mesh tops. So, time to put extra effort into choosing the right underthings and ensuring they coordinate with your ‘regular’ daily ensemble. Putting a fool-proof look together that includes your lacy bits while also combating the sweat and stick outside can be a challenge, though — my 8228 is proving to be a warrior through it all [insert bicep emoji]. From happy hour ensembles (cheers to the freaking weekend!) to my all white weekend uniform seen here, my sky blue 8228 (purchase the kit here) has kept me looking fresh, literally and figuratively. The comb..

Penelope’s Pompom Beanie

"Penelopes Pompom Beanie is going to be your absolute favorite accessory of the decade. Sometimes we think "a hat is a hat" and just choose by texture. While this hat was originally designed for a woman, leaving off the pompom, you could easily make it for a man or boy. This hat would fit a child a little more like a slouch! Change the colors to match your favorite team or school colors. Mix n match to work with a new sweater or even a pair of socks! With so many color choices available, you could have a completely different looking hat for every day of the year. With such a simple pattern, they will work up quickly and swiftly for craft fairs. Try one today!"

The Nore dress for teens & women: VIEW B

Even before I'd sewn the very first Nore dress for myself, I knew that I wanted to hack my own pattern by combining it with the free A-line skirt that I drew for the Julia dress. Oh I love the result. It's a totally different dress than the first one I showed you, don't you think? On a night out with Catherine, I was wearing this dress and she asked me to add this option to the pattern. So I did! After I already wore the dress a couple of times, I cut the skirt off, added pockets and attached it again. While doing so I took new pictures for the instructions. The VIEW B is now part of the pattern. Not as a hack, but really as an extra option. Hooray! I'm glad that Catherine convinced me to add the option AND that I took the effort to add pockets. No Compagnie M. pattern without pockets, right? And the good think about this skirt? You can mix & match it with the Julia sweater. The fabric is a very special one from 'In den beer'. I treasured it for a whil..

Casual Cute (Named Slone Sweatshirt)

Thank you to Indiesew for providing this pattern as part of their blogger network. Sometimes on a Friday night you just want to cozy up in a sweatshirt and catch up on blogs with a glass of wine, and sometimes you want to dress up in your ruffliest outfit and fake lashes and throw a silly dance party with your girlfriends. This is the magical sweatshirt that is totally appropriate for both. The Sloane Sweatshirt is my first Named Clothing pattern, but it won't be my last! (No, seriously, I'm working on another one right now.) I'm also like the only person in the world who still hasn't made an Inari, sorry. I had a few different ideas for this sweatshirt. I knew I wanted to use a classic heather grey fabric (this french terry is from Mulberry Silks and it's cosy and soft and wonderful) but I wasn't sure how I wanted to change up the design. I was going to copy that J. Crew sweatshirt from a while back that had a woven ruffle at the neckline, but changed dir..

Argyle Christmas Stockings {free pattern}

Hello sewists... guess what??? Christmas is starting! Okay, well, really your holiday sewing is starting but that's most of the fun of the holidays, isn't it.... making handmade gifts for everyone we love? And making festive decorations to put around the house? Holiday fabrics are starting to hit the quilt shops and there are so many to adore... like this collection called Christmas Dear by Stacey Peterson for Blend Fabrics. And I have a confession to make: my family does not have handmade Christmas stockings (well, until now). We have been using a miss-matched set of store bought Christmas stockings because I never plan ahead enough to make handmade stockings. When it is time to put them up, who has time to sew them? No one ever. So this year I started my holiday sewing as soon as I got my holiday fabrics. Okay, truth be told - I keep ordering holiday fabrics and they are arriving, like, daily - so watch for lots of holiday sewing projects for me for the rest of the year!!!..
